Police have received three reports in relation to the claim by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that there is a campaign to topple the government.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the reports will be investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

"We have received reports regarding the deputy prime minister's (statement) that there is an attempt to topple the government.

"We will take action if it is discovered there are attempts to topple the government through unconstitutional means," Khalid announced at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.

Asked if there was any truth to Ahmad Zahid's claim that an Umno leader is planning to overthrow the government, the police chief refused to comment.

"That you have to ask the Umno leadership. The police would not intervene in party matters, so don't ask me about party matters," Khalid said.

Meanwhile, Khalid said that the police are not investigating PetroSaudi International Ltd as no reports have been received.

"Our investigation on the charge sheet is still suspended by investigations on the leak of banking information is ongoing.

"We are also investigating allegations that Tabung Haji was involved in financial impropriety. Apart from this, we are not investigating," he said.
