Nazir: Grave disconnect between gov't and people

There is a serious disconnect between the government and the people right now, says prominent banker Nazir Abdul Razak as quoted by The Edge Markets today.

Nazir, who is also the younger brother of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, said that as such leaders of civil societies and professional organisations need to get together to discuss the situation and the future of the country.

"What the country needs to do today to make those structural changes.

"The best possible future for the country and our children. And God willing, someone will listen," he said.

On June 17, Nazir had revealed that he was planning to set up a new NGO to advocate moderation.

He had said he was 'growing increasingly concerned' about the socio-political environment as well as its impact on the economy.

"In this context I have had conversations with like-minded friends, including Saifuddin Abdullah, about the need to better enable moderate Malaysians to voice their views, concerns and suggestions," he said.

Former Umno deputy minister Saifuddin Abdullah has been tight-lipped about any details regarding this NGO.
