Former deputy special branch director Abdul Hamid Bador will be issued a show-cause letter over his recent press conference with the media.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said as a police officer, Abdul Hamid is bound by regulations and cannot simply make statements to the media.

He said the letter will allow the former deputy special branch director to defend himself before he faces disciplinary action.

"I have met him, and had a long talk, but I don't want to comment further on what we talked about. I believe he acted out of disappointment.

"During the meeting, I also reminded him that he is bound by police regulations, which dictate who can speak to the media.

"So we have to take disciplinary action," he told reporters in Kuantan today, according to Bernama .

Transfer - plight of critics?

Abdul Hamid held a press conference on Sunday following his transfer out of the police force last week.

During the press conference, he claimed to have been given the boot because he insisted the 1MDB probe be conducted in a fully transparent manner.

The SB veteran added his 37 years of service may have ended suddenly with a transfer to the Prime Minister's Department (PMD) because he did not want to carry out the "agenda" of certain parties.

He however declined to elaborate on what he meant by "certain agenda".

Abdul Hamid's transfer is reminiscent of the plight of two other Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers linked to the 1MDB probe earlier.

MACC special operations division director Bahri Mohd Zin ( photo ) and strategic communications director Rohaizad Yaakob were also slapped with transfer orders to the Prime Minister’s Department.

The MACC transfers, which drew flak, were later cancelled.
