KJ: Umno Youth did not pressure me to make a stand on Najib

Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin denies the report that he was pressured to make a stand to support Umno president Najib Abdul Razak at the youth exco meeting earlier this week.

"Were you at the meeting? I was at the meeting. It didn't happen," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Earlier today, a source told Malaysiakini that pro-Najib factions within Umno Youth are pressuring Khairy to make a stand on whether or not he supports Najib.

The source within the wing said four Umno Youth exco members demanded that Khairy declare his position at the wing's meeting on Tuesday.

"They demanded that Khairy state what is his stand, whether he is for Najib or against," he told Malaysiakini.

In a related matter, Khairy also refused to respond to Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin's statement yesterday, congratulating him for backing the ousted deputy prime minister.

On Tuesday, Khairy said Umno Youth still respected Muhyiddin as the party deputy president despite him being dropped as the deputy premier last month.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin thanked Khairy and the party grassroots for supporting him as the party’s deputy president.

He also thanked Khairy and the Youth wing leadership for their bravery.

"I wish to thank Khairy, and the Umno Youth Exco lineup for their brave statements on national affairs, especially regarding issues that affect the country's image, like 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion donation to Najib," he said in the statement.
