PAS is stronger post-Pakatan, says Hadi

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reminded PAS members that the Islamist party has always emerged stronger after a fallout with coalition partners.

He said that for every failed venture into a political coalition, PAS has managed to expand its influence and the same can be said for the now defunct cooperation with DAP and PKR.

“Those who join PAS is far greater in numbers than those who jeer at it for being duped, greater than numbers compared to those who continue to embrace DAP with unbound affections to the extent of setting up a new party which is linked to DAP,” he said.

Several prominent PAS members, including former deputy president Mohamad Sabu and former election director Dr Hatta Ramli have quit PAS in the post-Pakatan fall out and formed splinter party Parti Amanah Rakyat (Amanah).

Hadi said PAS managed to bring Islamic influence into government as part of the BN ruling government in the 1970s, won Kelantan following its cooperation with Semangat 46 and won Terengganu as part of Barisan Alternatif and Kedah and Perak as a result of cooperation with Pakatan Rakyat.

He said PAS was kicked out by BN when it was weak, but came back stronger by winning back Kelantan. The same is happening today.

"Now PAS is kicked out by DAP, who feel strong just because they govern Penang but the number of PAS supporters have grown," he said.

"This are the benefits of remaining on Allah’s path through knowledge and wisdom, and setting down strategy which may change in time.

"The objectives of Islam, however, can never be changed," he said.
