PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today said that PAS has its own strengths and will not merge with Parti Amanah Negara (PAN), the newly-formed political party, which is still in the process of registration.

He said past experience had taught the party to be more careful in forging close cooperation with other political parties.

"PAS is still firm on its decision not to accept the new party and we are consistent in our stand," he told reporters after attending the state assembly sitting in Kuala Terengganu today.

On the status of Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Raja Bahrin, who was asked to quit as PAS member after joining the new party, Abdul Hadi said he would seek reports from PAS liaison committee at both the state and national levels before taking any further action.

When asked on the possibility that PAS members would participate in the rally scheduled to be held on Sept 16 (Malaysia Day), the PAS president said he would look into the content of the programme.

"We respect and celebrate the National Day, that was why we did not participate in the recent Bersih rally because it coincided with the National Day celebration," he added.
