Bukit Rambai new area with unhealthy API reading

Bukit Rambai in Malacca is the new area to record unhealthy reading of Air Pollutant Index (API) of 106 as at 5pm today compared to 98 at noon.

According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE) portal, 10 other areas still have unhealthy air quality, namely Malacca City with API reading of 112, Balok Baru, Kuantan (104), Tawau (110), Kapit (122), Kuching (155), Samarahan (155), Sarikei (137), Sibu (130), Sri Aman (154) and Kemaman (101).

Shah Alam and Paka recorded moderate readings of the API at 92 and 97 respectively, compared to 103 and 112 earlier.

Other areas with moderate API readings were Bintulu (95), Jerantut (87) Indera Mahkota (88), Muar (94), Petaling Jaya, Banting and Cheras (83), Pasir Gudang (87), Larkin Lama (78), Batu Muda (75), Nilai (76), Shah Alam (94) and Kuala Selangor (70).

The three-day cloud seeding operation, which began yesterday, continued today with focus given on northern areas of Johor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Klang Valley and south and west of Sarawak.

Two Hercules C130 aircraft belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force based in Subang and Kuching were used in the operation.

Air quality with API readings of 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
