Cops confirm body found in oil drum is Kevin Morais
Police have confirmed that the body found in a drum filled with concrete last Wednesday was that of deputy head of the Attorney-General’s Chambers Appellate and Trial Division, Anthony Kevin Morais.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department head Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the DNA sent for identification purposes was found to match with the body found.
“The chemistry report showed that the body which was cemented and found three days ago was positive of the sample sent for DNA analysis for Kevin Morais,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Zainuddin said the body was still under investigation by the pathology unit and the actual cause of death had yet to be ascertained.
Morais’s remains would be handed over to his next-of-kin in the near future, he said.
The body of an individual, believed to be Morais, was found in a drum filled with concrete in Subang Jaya, Selangor after one of the seven suspects brought police to the location at Taman Perumahan USJ 1, Persiaran Subang Mewah.
Morais, 55, was reported missing on Sept 4 and the last time he was seen was when he was leaving his condominium in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur to go to work in Putrajaya by driving a Proton Perdana car with registration number WA6264Q.
Seven men have been detained so far to assist in the investigation into the gruesome murder.
Meanwhile, police were collaborating with the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Department in efforts to locate the evidence believed to be tied to the case, which was believed to be thrown into a river in Kuala Selangor.
“Scuba teams from the police and Civil Defence Department are still continuing efforts to find the case evidence in the area although the current was swift this morning and the search was continued this afternoon,” Zainuddin said yesterday.
