An Umno division leader has critcised MCA for practicing double standards when it comes to rallies.

Syed Ali Alhabshee said MCA is "lopsided and prejudice" in evaluating the Sept 16 rally - dubbed as Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu - held to uphold Malay dignity.

"They vent their anger at Umno leaders because of the rally but keep quiet when thousands of Chinese participated in Bersih 4.

"They only see Malays who gathered because of anger and frustration but shut their eyes to their race (the Chinese) insulting Umno leaders," he added in a blog post.

His remarks come in the wake of Pasir Gudang MCA Youth severing ties with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for defending the Sept 16 rally.

The rally held to counter Bersih 4, especially with regards to participants stomping on photographs of Najib, witnessed provocative banners and insults hurled at the Chinese.

Syed Ali said BN component parties, especially MCA, should seek an explanation on the Sept 16 rally through proper channels.

He said feelings of discontent can be conveyed through the BN supreme council chaired by the prime minister.

The Cheras Umno chief said the Sept 16 gathering, also known as the red-shirts rally, was a manifestation of the disappointment felt by the Malays, especially Umno members, towards certain quarters who stoke racial sentiments in their efforts to topple the government.

Therefore, he said the rally was held to remind those involved that the Malays would unite if their dignity is belittled.

"For a long time, the Malays have been patient with the non-Malays in this country, so the gathering should be seen from a positive viewpoint," he added.

In view of this, Syed Ali said BN component parties should not jump the gun and conclude that the rally was racist.

"The question of racism does not arise because the fundamentals of Umno’s struggle is for the Malays, Islam and this country," he added.
