KJ and Co open fire, MCA rebel wing told to quit BN

Ties between Umno and MCA continue to be strained following Pasir Gudang MCA Youth division's move to cut ties with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said if the MCA wing wanted to resort to such actions, then it is best for them to exit the ruling coalition.

He also called on MCA Youth to probe the wing over the matter.

His remarks come in the wake of MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon telling Pahang Umno Youth not to meddle in the party's internal affairs, when it made a similar call.

Khairy, who is also BN Youth chairperson, said Pasir Gudang MCA Youth's decision risked jeopardising ties in the ruling coalition.

"The co-operation can be damaged with such individual actions," he was reported as saying.

The wing decided to sever its relationship with Najib after the prime minister expressed support for the Sept 16 'Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu'.

Also known as the 'red-shirts' rally, it was held to uphold Malay dignity after Bersih 4 participants were photographed stomping on images of the prime minister.

However, the Sept 16 gathering was marred by provocative banners and insults towards the Chinese, prompting MCA, Gerakan and DAP to file a slew of police reports.

Pasir Gudang MCA division has since said it respected the stand of its Youth wing, and left the matter to the central leadership, which in turn called for calm.

MCA is slated to hold a meeting on Thursday with division leaders from all wings nationwide to make a stand on Bersih 4 and the 'red-shirts' rally.

MCA president must state stand

Meanwhile, Umno Youth information chief Jamawi Jaafar urged MCA to state its stand on the matter and take stern action against Pasir Gudang MCA Youth chief Cia Chow Hui.

He wanted MCA president Liong Tiong Lai to break his silence.

On the other hand, Johor Umno youth chief Hahasrin Hashim urged Pasir Gudang MCA Youth to apologise.

"Although the decision is not by Johor MCA Youth, such a stand is sensitive and irresponsible," he was quoted as saying.

Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah was reported in Sinar Harian as describing Cia's as lacking character.
