Schools in Johor have been instructed to shut down for the third consecutive day as thick haze continue to engulf the state.
Johor and Malacca schools were closed Monday and Tuesday, while schools in several others states were closed on Monday.
The Education Ministry in a statement said schools must remain closed in the southern state because the Air Pollutant Index readings there have not changed since yesterday.
However, schools in neighbouring Malacca will open as the air quality has improved.
Up to 20 districts nationwide recorded very unhealthy API reading over the weekend.
Visibility was as low as 500 metres in parts of the Klang Valley on Saturday, forcing the closure of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
Flights were also grounded at the Kuching Airport for several hours Monday due to poor visibility.
