Explain aid halt to religious schools, Penang gov’t told

The PAS Ulama Wing wants an explanation on an allegation that the Penang government had stopped giving aid to religious schools owned by PAS members.

PAS Ulama information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali told the DAP-PKR led state government that these schools had been receiving aid for the past few years.

"But lately, their aid has been stopped. More so, offer letters on the assistance for the schools have also been revoked.

"We want to remind the DAP-PKR Penang government not to act like the previous government, which did not provide assistance to several PAS-owned schools simply because of political sentiments.

"This only shows that DAP and PKR, which were previously the opposition, have become cruel when they come to power and are not fair and just to those who are with them politically," Khairuddin ( photo ) said in a statement today.

DAP, which leads the Penang government, fell out with PAS, after the party’s 61st muktamar in June decided to cut ties with DAP.

The delegates accepted the proposal by the ulama council to do so as DAP had earlier severed ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for moving a Private Member’s Bill on hudud in Parliament.

PAS Penang commissioner Fauzi Mohd Yusof then directed the party’s lawyers to issue a legal letter to the state government over the sacking of its members from official posts.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in turn said PAS had shown it was an enemy of the state government by threatening legal action in support of those terminated from their posts.
