Cops probe S'gor MB staff over 'pro-Shiite' remark
At least two people have been called up for questioning by the police over Selangor Menteri Besar’s office chief of staff Khalid Jaafar’s alleged statement defending the Shiites.
This follows police reports lodged by NGO Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) and the Petaling Jaya Utara Umno Youth division against Khalid last Tuesday.
One of those called up, Najwan Halimi, told Malaysiakini that he would be giving his statement tomorrow afternoon.
He added that Khalid has already given his statement on Saturday, and that Selangor executive councillor and Batu Caves assemblyperson Amirudin Shari has also been called up for questioning.
When contacted, Amirudin

said he is obtaining details on the matter and would only inform the media after meeting his staff this afternoon.
JMM’s police report pertains to a 2013 video featuring Khalid.
The NGO claims that his statements endanger national safety and causes confusion among Muslims.
The video is believed to be taken during a forum held on Sept 12, 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Chinese Assembly Hall, themed ‘ Siapa Rampas Reformasi?’
Khalid was a panellist at the forum together with Amirudin, while Najwan was the forum’s moderator.
Other panellists at the forum were then Malaysiakini chief editor Fathi Aris Omar and writer Hasmi Hashim.
Malaysian Muslims are predominantly Sunni, with the state viewing other demoninations as deviant.
