The the haze situation in the country has improved further, with no areas recording unhealthy air quality as at 8pm tonight.

Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Che Gayah Ismail said based on the department’s forecast until Oct 31, the haze situation prevailing in the country now could be over soon.

“Normal air quality will be back if there is no formation of new tropical storms to affect wind direction in the region.

“Malaysia is expected to experience the monsoon season starting from early November until early March and the weather is expected to be wet with North-Easterly winds blowing to ensure the country is free from haze,” she said when contacted by Bernama today.

According to the Department of Environment (DOE) portal, as at 8pm, 38 areas recorded moderate Air Pollutants Index (API) readings with Port Dickson at 94, Malacca City (83), Bukit Rambai (81), Seremban (79), Banting (78), Port Klang (77), Nilai (76), Kuala Terengganu (75), Shah Alam (74), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (73), SMK Tanjung Chat, Kota Baru (72), Pasir Gudang and Larkin Lama, Johor (71).

Other areas were Seri Manjung, Perak and Seberang Jaya 2, Perai (70), Langkawi, Putrajaya and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (68), Tanah Merah, Kelantan (67), Petaling Jaya, Kangar, Balok Baru, Kuantan (66), Kemaman (65) and Bakar Arang Sungai Petani (64), Muar, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang and SK Jalan Pegoh, Ipoh (63) with Alor Setar (62).

Kg Air Putih, Taiping and Kuala Selangor (59), Kota Tinggi (58), Perai, Penang and Jalan Tasek, Ipoh (57), Indera Mahkota, Kuantan and Paka (56), Tanjung Malim and Jerantut (55) as well as Bintulu (51).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and above 300, hazardous.
