Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s legal letter to former MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik is a “personal matter”, said Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He said this when asked why Najib chose to threaten legal action against Ling, for saying Najib pocketed public funds, but not former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said the same.

“That is a personal matter between the parties involved,” Nur Jazlan (photo) curtly told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib on Monday issued a letter of demand to Ling, seeking an apology within seven days.

Ling yesterday said he will not apologise and is willing to be sued by Najib.

Najib's move raised eyebrows, since Ling was joining a chorus of others criticising the PM on the same matter.

Najib came under fire when RM2.6 billion was found in his bank account.

He said it was a political donation, but refused to elaborate. He said he has never used public funds for personal use.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's on-going investigation found the funds came from a middle-eastern source.
