But did Muhyiddin ask you to abuse Sosma?

YOURSAY | ‘In a single tweet, Abdul Rahman has clearly stated that he lacks integrity.’

Muhyiddin made us all vote for Sosma, says minister

Paul Warren: So, BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan admits that he voted for Sosma (Security Offences [Special Measures] Act) as instructed by then DPM Muhyiddin Yassin.

And that he need not know or understand what it was he was voting for. According to him, all BN MPs too voted in a similar fashion.

And I thought that somewhere in their oath of office they had promised to apply their own conscience somewhere.

If they would rather just follow the leader, what he says is that the best BN parliamentarian is one who blindly follows instructions. Of what use is such an MP?

Odin Tajué: Abdul Rahman, I never cease to be amazed at how someone like you could be a federal minister. On top of that, you are BN's strategic communications director.

Even my former classmates and I when we were in lower secondary school knew what terrorism and terrorist mean. You clearly do not. Nor, obviously, can you tell what misapplication means. No, that word is too hard for you. So we shall replace it with ‘abuse'.

The Sosma Act was meant to be used against terrorists. Terrorists are people who use terrorism in the pursuit of political objectives. Terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate (frighten) or to coerce (apply pressure) on your target so that he will submit to you.

None of the people who have been arrested and detained under the Act has resorted to violence and threats against anyone. That means the Act has been misapplied or abused.

PM Najib Razak has been abusing the Sosma Act to save his hide from being flayed. Therefore, Muhyiddin is guilty of nothing in having exhorted you all to vote for the Act. Mind you, I detest that man. But fair is fair.

Quigonbond: Abdul Rahman, you couldn't have picked the two worst examples. On Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Internal Security Act (ISA), it was draconian, but Dr M brought us progress, there were no little Napoleons running around showing butt and telling non-Malays they are "pendatang", so when you set the two off, there is a net gain for Malaysia.

On Muhyddin whipping you poor boys to voting for Sosma, the civil society didn't agree with Sosma, but when you voted for Sosma, it was your vote that passed the law.

Are you saying you voted in favour of Sosma even if it was against your conscience? What kind of backboneless politician are you? And was Sosma intended for political dissidents back then?

We Malaysians assumed so, but during parliamentary debate, you said otherwise. Even if most Malaysians don't give it a benefit of doubt, obviously you did. So why blame the BN whip?

Anyway, the most important thing is what you do with Sosma now. It's either you agree that political dissent is or is not terrorism. Is that really that hard to distinguish the two?

Vijay47: Your desperation is showing, Abdul Rahman, and you will need much more than the straws you are grasping at. Unfortunately for you, even a few dozen sheaves will not do you much good for long.

But let us get a few elephants out of the way - Mahathir was no angel during his term at the wicket and he has a lot for which to seek forgiveness from the Malaysian public. Right now he is a convenient instrument and if useful to the nation, why not?

You now reveal, perhaps unnecessarily, that Muhyiddin made all BN lackeys vote for Sosma. So? Is he also the one using the Act to curtail all opposition to a band of crooks who have lost every sense of proportion in the artful practice of daylight robbery?

Is Muhyiddin the culprit charging everyone who has to temerity to let the world know of the dirty work going on at the crossroads?

Which reminds me, what is the law being broken when someone reports on blatant illegalities taken place across the land? Time is running dry, Abdul Rahman, repent.

Anonymous_1421806811: This not-so-wise minister is dumber than I thought. Sosma is for anti-terrorism purposes.

It boggles the mind how the actions former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer, Matthias Chang, can damage the banking and financial sectors of the economy.

If Abdul Rahman can't even understand the laws he himself voted for, how can he lead a ministry?

GE14NOW!: Yes, he does not seem to understand the difference between the Act and the abuse of the Act.

While many of us believe that Sosma is not desirable, what is worse and utterly morally bankrupt is when the Act is used against people involved in wanting to weed out corruption. How can that be viewed as an act of terrorism?

How is getting rid of corruption at the highest level an act against the maintenance of public order and security? Are we all not taught to be honest citizens?

Kawak: While Sarawakian BN MPs keep silence on 1MDB, two Sabahan Umno ministers are making themselves clowns trying to defend the PM and his financial scandals.

Anonymous$&@?: This minister is trying to twist the context here to fool the rakyat. When BN proposed the use of Sosma, they claimed it would be used to contain terrorists even though opposition protested that it would be used against political dissidents.

It is now proven without doubt that Sosma was crafted by Umno with the intention to create fear and put dissidents behind bars.

Anonymous #40538199: Don't insult the intelligence of the rakyat. Muhyiddin asked you to vote for the Act but not abuse the Act.

Existential Turd: The question is not whether a law is good or bad, but whether the people who wield it are good or bad.

No matter how good a law is, as long as it is wielded by unscrupulous people without proper checks and balances, the law will become a tool for suppression rather than justice.

Anonymous_1394546275: In a single tweet, Abdul Rahman has clearly stated that he lacks integrity, fails to take responsibility for his actions and will not stand accountable for the outcome of his actions.
