With Saifuddin’s move, there goes Umno’s last good man

YOURSAY | ‘I like how he responded. Never once did he condemn Umno.’

Fed up with RM2.6b scandal, Saifuddin moves to PKR

Jaycee: Finally, a person with integrity; who can tell right from wrong. Unlike the blind followers who still say that there is nothing wrong in transferring RM2.46billion to one's personal account. And let's not even get into the 1MBD debacle.

Goldee: Congratulations to you, Saifuddin Abdullah. You have made the right choice and the move in joining PKR, and together with Pakatan Harapan we will fight for a better Malaysia for our future generations.

I always had very high respect for you when you were the higher education deputy minister. I always admired your work to transform Malaysia into a progressive and liberal country for all Malaysians.

I was hoping to see more politicians in Umno Baru with similar qualities as you, but sad to say there was none.

Democrat: I like how he responded like a true gentleman. He says he is a small man and not suitable for Umno. Never once did he condemn Umno or its leaders.

We need these kind of gentlemen in our national leadership.

Ferdtan: One person in Temerloh must be sweating. PAS MP and the 'ultra-ulama' ex-youth chief Nasrudin Hassan, who won the seat from Saifuddin in the last GE will not be repeating his feat again.

He won with the non-Muslim votes despite of his ultra-religious stand as compared to a learned and moderate Saifuddin. That showed that non-Muslims voted for any party in the Pakatan coalition, and not so much for the individual.

The Analyser: Welcome to the Losers Club, where you can continue to do nothing until PKR implodes under the weight of its own indecision.

By the way, where is DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng these days, not in the photos and not saying anything irrelevant.

He's leaving it up to PKR and Parti Amanah Negara to soil their nest such that nobody wants to join it. Meanwhile, he will walk away with a clean slate.

Vent: Naturally Saifuddin’s heart steered him to PKR as he will still be in the company of many from Umno. That’s the problem with PKR.

It is in many ways the alter-ego of Umno and therefore the weakest link in Pakatan. Disappointing. What a bold message Saifuddin would have sent if he had joined DAP or PSM instead?

At the end of the day, it is all about survival and self-interest. He doesn’t have a future in Umno so to stay relevant he had to choose the next best option, i.e. a family and motley collection of former Umno members.

But perhaps if others follow suit we may yet have a no-confidence vote against PM Najib Abdul Razak. That alone may be compensation. And perhaps he will win back Temerloh? We will have to wait and see.

Anonymous #523894157: There goes Umno's only and last good man.

What does Saifuddin’s ‘departure from Umno’ mean?

Doc: Umno keeps reiterating that they are the only party that can protect the dignity and interest of the Malays.

With the impending exodus of party moderates and intellectuals disillusioned with Najib and Umno’s direction under his leadership; Umno may have to re-brand itself.

Their new motto should be Umno - defender of the corrupt and low-IQ Malays.

Disgusted: Saifuddin is miles ahead the current batch of Umno ministers in terms of intelligence, dignity and principles.

If he stands again in Temerloh under the PKR banner, he will surely win, and the biggest loser will be the incumbent PAS.

In the last elections, PAS won because of the boost given by non-Malay/non-Muslim voters who voted for Pakatan, not exactly for PAS. PAS piggybacked on Pakatan's popularity.

Ok Bah: Saifuddin (unlike other Umno political misfits) is a man well-respected by one and all for his coolness, fairness, patience and strong belief for a better Malaysia. Najib will miss him a lot.

Anonymous_1389801797: What would you do if you find yourself aboard a pirate ship? Can you fight all the pirates alone or you abandon the ship just like Saifuddin, and attack the looting rascals from the ground?

Saifuddin joining PKR good for several reasons

Patriot1: To build a better nation, we have to start somewhere. The BN government which is tainted at all levels and aspects appears to be in its dying throes. They have made a mockery of themselves at the local front and a joke in the international front.

If you are a BN member, what have you got to sell besides racism and religion? These points are totally useless in the international arena.

Granted, the opposition alliance is untested at the national level but at least they've done fairly well in Selangor and Penang.

If we dare not step into the unknown, we'll not get ourselves out of the rut the nation is in. The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. So Saifuddin, be one of those to lead the way.
