Toll hike - Umno grassroots, you reap what you sow

YOURSAY | ‘You voted your leaders in, you can vote them out.’

Umno grassroots unhappy, want toll hike reviewed

Good Governance: The rakyat has been taken for a ride by the lopsided agreements signed with the toll concessionaires, giving them the right to raise rates at regular intervals.

Common sense will tell us that the operators, in addition to benefitting from the current rates, are also well-compensated by additional collections arising from the ever increasing number of vehicles, year by year. Hence, there is no rationale for rate increases.

We, the rakyat, also want the government to ensure that once the concession period is over, the concessions should not be further extended with lame excuses like the operators have done some road widening and therefore deserve another 30-year extension.

We ask the government to renegotiate these unfair agreements or alternatively bite the bullet by nationalising all these concessions. The rakyat will not mind paying a one-time tax to finance the costs of this nationalisation exercise.

Carlim: Well done, Umno. The party grassroots blindly support the boss and now they complain.

RM2.6billion Duit Haram: Umno is to be blamed. While almost everybody knows how PM Najib Razak has blundered in steering the country's economy with his 1MDB misadventures, its members blindly support him.

And as a result, more taxes have to be imposed and we have to bear the burden. Kepong Umno Baru Youth chief Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, this is just a mild foretaste. The worst is yet to come. And you are crying already.

Save your tears for the day when we have to say goodbye to our children going overseas to work as maids and labourers.

And while you fellows suffer, Najib is gifted with RM2.6 billion and will live in luxury for the rest of his life. Don't cry. You all asked for it.

Liew Lean Kut: It is the kampung Malays who will be hit hardest. Their children work in the urban area where the toll booths are. But they will have to support their parents who vote for BN.

As long as you don't change this government, you will have to keep paying.

RCZ: You are Umno so stop lamenting and moaning. Do something about your leaders.

If they are dishonest, not transparent, are causing hardship and most importantly, are not listening to the grassroots, leave the party and form your own.

That is, if you dare and if you think politics is about serving the people. If not, shut up.

K Lim: To the Umno grassroots, ask yourself who you voted for in GE13. You are not qualified to complain about the toll hike because you put this government into power. Najib represents you.

On the contrary, you are to be blamed for the toll hike because you supported and helped him to win the last election.

YF: Are the financial debts so big that even Goods and Services Tax (GST) is not enough to wipe it out?

That toll hikes are required to save the crooks so that they can continue in their crimes of extravagances? This is the legacy of Umno.

Sleepy: I consider the toll as an "indirect donation" to the ruling party, courtesy of the rakyat.

Doc: April 15, GST came into effect. July to Aug 15, we saw a significant drop in the value of the ringgit. In August, we saw the Bersih protest. In September, we saw the red shirt protest in which Umno goons were trying to cause another May 13.

This sent foreign investors fleeing with billions in tow. The stock market is sinking like the Titanic. 1MDB fiasco is never ending.

No investor is going to touch Malaysia with a 10-foot pole as long as Najib is in power and this fiasco lingers. The devaluation of the renminbi sent the ringgit into a spiral in August and September. Cost of living goes up.

Global petrol prices are dropping but two weeks ago, petrol prices went up here instead. Yesterday, tolls go up.

Clearly from this scenario, if Najib's mission and vision for Malaysia is to destroy its financial, economic, social, judicial and political structure, he has succeeded.

This is largely thanks to the support he gets from the Umno leadership, MPs and division leaders.

Mosquitobrain: With RM2.6 billion, many kilometres of roads to by-pass tolls can be built. But Najib prefers to keep it all for himself.

Sali Tambap: They raised toll and petrol prices. They introduced GST and this was followed by the fall of the ringgit.

From the rakyat's perception, these are the result of the ruling government's incapability to rule as it is mired in corruption. And while the small people are suffering, Caesar is having a fun time in the palace

One day, when they finally have nothing to lose, because there is nothing left worth keeping, they will rise up, and reject the nincompoops and rescue the country from bankruptcy.

Tell-tale signs are now showing when even the ruling elite is whining and bleating against the atrocious actions and decisions of their overlords.

Thinking Malaysian: The red shirts must be ecstatic over the toll hike. They can now blame the Chinese and DAP for it, too.
