PKR MP submits no-confidence motion on Najib to Parliament

PKR's Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian has submitted a notice for the tabling of a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The no-confidence motion is presently on the Parliament order paper for Monday.

However, it is the listed as the 25th item out of a total of 28 proposed motions.

Its position, coupled with the convention that government motions would always get priority, means the no-confidence motion may never see the light of day.

This was similar to PAS' bid to table a private member's bill in March to allow for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan, which appeared on the Parliament order papers but never materialised.

Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said the public has to adjust their expectations as the Malaysian parliamentary system means it is difficult to get a no-confidence motion through.

"My worry is that if the public doesn't understand the rules of Parliament, they might say that the opposition has lied to them.

"(But) something that is difficult but is right, you still have to push. But then you have to be realistic of the outcome," he said.

'Affected country's image'

Hee's motion zoomed in on Najib's alleged failure to adequately explain the RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal bank accounts and the scuttling of investigations into 1MDB.

The motion read: "That this House put forward a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for receiving RM2.6 billion in 'donation money' which he had denied in the beginning, then threatened to sue The Wall Street Journal , and finally admitted the money was obtained through an individual from the Middle East.

"Without explanation of why the 'donation money' was deposited into his personal accounts and not in the name of the party, the House is also unsatisfied over investigations into 1MDB by the 'special task force' which should be investigating this scandal, but was dissolved without explanation with the attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail's service being terminated; Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers transferred; police interfering in the MACC and Bank Negara's investigation, and the public accounts committee, which was in the middle of its investigation into the 1MDB case, being unable to function after four of its members were appointed as minister or deputy minister by the prime minister; the Special Branch deputy chief being transferred to the Prime Minister's Department without any duties.

"Given the problems mentioned, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has affected the country's image in the world and caused investors to lose confidence in the government, to the extent the economy has become unstable, (with) the share market declining badly as well as the fall of the value of the ringgit against the US dollar.

"Therefore Malaysians no longer believe in the prime minister, and this House should resolve to put forward a no-confidence vote against the prime minister".
