PAS has identified candidates from its PAS Supporters Wing to challenge DAP in the 14th general election, said PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

The PAS supporters’ wing comprises non-Muslim members and Amar, who is also Kelantan PAS deputy chief (I), said the party will put candidates in DAP seats which they feel they can win, including Penang, which is a DAP stronghold.

“We have no ties with DAP but we may decide to work with PKR or other parties. We are studying the matter as there is still time,” he was quoted as saying by the BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) website.

This follows PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's earlier statement that the Islamist party intends to field non-Malay candidates in constituencies that DAP will contest, in the next general election.

Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan was also quoted by BNBBC as saying that PKR should stop hoping that PAS will be part of newly formed opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan.

“The party has made a decision that it would not join Pakatan Harapan and history shows that the opposition does not have to be in one coalition.

“In the past, we had Semangat 46 along with PAS and Berjasa, and DAP was not part of it.

“Like now we have Pakatan Harapan, and I hope they (PKR) do not have hopes of PAS joining Pakatan Harapan,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby today.

PAS information chief, Nasrudin Hasan, also said it was clear PAS would not be joining Pakatan Harapan. He added that PKR should respect the stand of PAS and it was not necessary for the Islamic party to write in and state its position.

They were asked to comment on PKR deputy president Azmin Ali stating that his party had yet to receive a letter from PAS regarding its interest in being part of Pakatan Harapan.

Prior to this, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat had also stated that PAS will not join Pakatan Harapan.
