PAS was nothing short of sarcastic when it labelled PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) parliamentarians “worse than children” for brandishing placards asking “where is the RM2.6 billion” after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak concluded his budget speech on Friday.

PAS Research Centre director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki in a Facebook post yesterday pointed out how there was a “mini Parliament” programme back in the 1970s and 80s.

Zuhdi ( photo ) said the programme, which showed children acting as parliamentarians, did not have them carrying placards similar to what the opposition MPs did last Friday.

“There was a children’s programme called the ‘children’s parliament’, hosted by Pak Cik Jamal (the late Jamal Muhamad).

“I don’t remember the children in the programme carrying placards like how the opposition did yesterday,” he said.

Based on pictures circulating on the Internet, however, it was obvious how several PAS parliamentarians did not display the placards.

PAS MPs defended

Meanwhile, Kelantan PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari defended the PAS MPs who did not display the placards, stating that this did not mean that they were on Najib's side in the RM2.6 billion issue.

Fadhli pointed out how the Islamist party had conducted various campaigns against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as well as the RM2.6 billion donation.

“PAS’ stand is clear, you can go to harakahdaily or buy the print version (to confirm this).

“It’s excessive to say that we support the RM2.6 billion issue just because our MPs did not brandish the placards. Find other means to condemn PAS,” he said.

The Wall Street Journal had first exposed how RM2.6 billion was transferred into Najib’s personal bank accounts.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) later stated that the amount transferred was a form of “donation”.
