RM2.6b no child’s play, Amanah MP tells PAS man
The MPs raised placards asking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak what happened to the RM2.6 billion found in his bank account not for laughs, said Amanah’s Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad said.
He said the MPs were standing up against corruption, and those ridiculing it as behaviour “ worse than children ” are daft not to see the bigger picture.
“One behaviour I know that is worse than children’s is that of a so-called intellectual adult that calls others’ behaviour as childlike, without properly appreciating the gravity of the situation,” he said in a statement.
He was referring to PAS Research Centre director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki who ridiculed the MPs for raising the placards after the PM’s budget speech in Parliament last Friday.
Raja Kamarul Bahrin said a long list of prominent individuals have asked for answers over the RM2.6 billion and 1MDB issue, but there have been none.
There have also been those who have lost their jobs or were arrested over the matter, he said.
“There is certainly nothing childlike in the seriousness of the issues. I hope Zuhdi fully realise the gravity of the situation,” he said.
As senior adviser of an Islamist party, he said, Zuhdi should advise PAS MPs to stand up against corruption and tyranny as per Islamic teachings.
This is more important than advising his colleagues to be polite in the House so as to not “offend their Umno friends”, he said snidely.
He added that it is common for MPs to hold up placards in Parliaments worldwide.
“If he (Zuhdi) was not too preoccupied watching the children's programme (Parlimen Kanak-kanak) hosted by late Pak Jamal, perhaps he would have more time to watch TV world news showing mature world democracies with Parliamentarians holding up placards in Parliament.
“It is quite a common affair,” he said.
Zuhdi in a scathing Facebook posting ridiculed the opposition bench MPs for holding up placards, saying that even the participants of Parlimen Kanak-kanak which aired in the 1970s to 1980s, did not do so.
Not all PAS MPs stood up and raised the placards.
Under fire, PAS’ Pasir Mas MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said he, too, protested the 2016 budget even though he was sitting down .
“I protest BN while sitting, while standing and even while lying down.
“I need not be with or the same as anyone in my struggle against traitors. I only need to be with Allah and the people,” Nik Abduh said in a Facebook post.
