‘Muhyiddin caused teachers to back opposition’

In its latest salvo against former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, MyKmu.net has targeted the 1BestariNet system.

The portal claimed the system introduced by Muhyiddin, who was also education minister prior to his sacking, had burdened teachers nationwide, causing them to turn to the opposition.

Teachers, it said, not only had to conduct lessons but were forced to do clerical work by entering data of students into the system.

“The intention was good but the infrastructure was not completed.

“A lot of teachers complained that the system took much of their time due to congestion when many teachers entered data at the same time.

“Ironically, the service provider is a crony of (former premier Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad), who is Muhyiddin’s new boss (tuan),” added the portal which is aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Over time, MyKmu.net claimed the situation caused teachers to despise the government and they turned their attention to the opposition, hoping the latter would pressure the powers-that-be.

“The teaching institution which was once known for producing great Umno leaders like (former vice-president) Isa Samad turned into an opposition enclave,” it added.

The 1BestariNet project was carried out by the Education Ministry and business conglomerate YTL.

Under the programme, every parent, student and teacher is provided with an ID that enabled access to a variety of tools to create a more exciting and interesting learning experience.

Meanwhile, MyKmu pointed out that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) confirmed that the system failed despite billions spent.

“Unfortunately, until now, we have not heard of Muhyiddin appearing before PAC to provide an explanation, despite him being one of those most concerned about the 1MDB issue,” it said.

The portal also lauded Najib for his wise decision in appointing Mahadzir Khalid (Photo) as the new education minister.

MyKmu said Mahadzir’s suggestion that the government introduce teaching assistants has been well received.

At the same time, the portal said the 1BestariNet programme should be improved instead of being canned.

“Perhaps, the current service provider can be replaced with one that is more credible such as TM,” it added.

In late July, Najib had removed Muhyiddin from the Cabinet following his critical remarks concerning 1MDB.
