Police have completed their investigations into two provocative incidents during the Bersih 4 and the red shirt rallies, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is also home minister, said the cases were now with the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action.

The incidents are related to Bersih protesters who stomped on a photo of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and the red shirt protesters who burned effigies of DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng.

"Investigation papers (into the Bersih incident) was submitted to the deputy public prosecutor on Sept 17.

"Investigation papers (into the red shirt incident) was submitted to the deputy public prosecutor on Oct 13," he said.

Both cases are being probed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for causing mischief with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public.

If found guilty, they can be jailed for up to two years or fined or both.

Zahid said this in a written parliamentary reply to Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai) who asked about the investigation status of both incidents.

The photo stomping in the Bersih 4 rally had caused an uproar among Malay politicians, who said the act was insolent and disrespectful.

This triggered calls for a counter protests, which culminated in the Sept 16 red shirt rally.
