There is no internal plot to remove Muhyiddin Yassin as Umno deputy president, says a party supreme council member, Shahidan Kassim.

"As a supreme council member and Perlis Umno chief, I have never seen a case or plan to topple the deputy president," Shahidan told reporters in the Parliament lobby today.

The alleged plot to get Umno division leaders behind a move to oust Muhyiddin was revealed yesterday by Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos.

Shahidan said if Jamal has any proof, he should present it to Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

"Umno is not a gangster party, but a party that always practises the Islamic way of life," he said.

He added the matter would not be discussed at the next Umno supreme council meeting, which has been postponed to a later date.

Asked if the meeting was postponed because the party feared what Muhyiddin would say, Shahidan replied: "No. We are fully behind the current party leadership.”

Muhyiddin has become increasingly vocal, and has called Umno leaders cowards for not speaking out on important issues.

He was deputy prime minister, but was removed after speaking out against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's brainchild, 1MDB.
