Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will not increase its fee for next year, despite the budget cut for public universities, said its vice-chancellor, Professor Dr Wahid Omar.
He said the university had its own strategy to cover its cost of operation and ensure smooth teaching and learning process, like adopting a prudent financial management, diversifying its sources of income, and to use existing assets to earn income.
"To implement prudent financial management, UTM introduces an awareness programme of its financial status among the campus community.
"Through the sharing of information, they will know the university's financial situation," he said in a statement in Johor Baru today.
He said UTM would also restructure its faculties and centres of responsibilities as part of the move to reduce expenditure and set up a business development unit to generate income for the university.
We have also identify assets, like land and buildings, that can be used as commercial centres to generate income, he added.
