Students' outing at KLCC turns into bomb scare

The bomb scare at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) today was the result of four students leaving their bags behind to go shopping, explained Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah.

In a statement this afternoon, Zainol said four youths had come forward to claim the bags after the a bomb squad moved in to deal with the 'threat'.

"Checks found male T-shirts and pants, a calculator and a watch box in the bags. Further investigations found no object resembling a bomb.

"In the end, four youths came forward and admitted the bags were theirs, which were left behind so that they could walk around KLCC and catch a movie.

"All the youths, aged 14, were sudents from a school in Negeri Sembilan and were brought to the police station for their statement to be recorded.

"The youths admitted that they had left their bags there as it was slowing them down," he said.

Robots used to deal with 'threat'

Earlier today, Zanol said KLCC's security had contacted the police to report the pressence of four abandoned bags in front of Tower Two of Suria KLCC at around 10.30am.

"The Dang Wangi police, bomb disposal squad, and other support services arrived at the scene.

"Around 1.30m, the bomb disposal squad successfully fired three rounds at the bags using robots," he said.

However, nothing threatening was discovered in the bags.

The incident had sparked off a bomb scare, setting social media abuzz.
