We won’t backstab allies unlike PAS, says DAP
DAP has given assurance that it will not backstab its coalition partners Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and PKR in terms of seat allocation for the next general election.
“DAP will not backstab (our allies) unlike PAS, which placed its candidate for the Kota Damansara seat that was PKR’s. Because of this, Umno won the seat,” said Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua.
In his speech at the DAP Selangor convention today, Pua said DAP will give its full backing to Amanah should it contest for any seat.
“Likewise, we believe that for any seat that the DAP contests, PKR and Amanah will also give their full support to us,” he said.
The former Pakatan Rakyat lost the Kota Damansara seat in the last general election to BN’s Halimaton Saadiah Bohan due to, among others, the split in votes between PKR and PAS’ respective candidates.
Although during seat negotiations an agreement had been arrived at to give the Selangor seat to PKR, the PAS candidate continued to run and did not pull out despite consternation from the coalition partners.
Meanwhile, on the eight seats currently held by PAS which the DAP were planning to contest, Pua said it currently did not matter whether his party would contest the seats or otherwise.
“DAP’s philosophy is we do our work first. Pakatan Harapan will conduct its seat negotiations later at an appropriate time,” he said.
Pua said his party only wants to seats to be won by Pakatan Harapan component parties in the upcoming general election.
“With the seats won by the DAP, PKR and Amanah, Pakatan Harapan will form a new government in Selangor with a stable majority,” he said.
Pua on Friday said that DAP had started laying the groundwork to contest the eight state seats in the next general election.
The Petaling Jaya Utara MP had explained that the DAP believes it has significant influence in the eight seats.
The eight seats are Taman Templer, Lembah Jaya, Paya Jeras, Sri Serdang, Meru, Cempaka, Dusun Tua and Tanjung Sepat.
