Freed Malaysian politician Anwar Ibrahim will hold talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during a five-day visit next week, the trip's organiser said today.

Anwar's visit from Dec 6, which coincides with a working trip by Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, was not "political" but aimed at enhancing the "complex" relations between the two countries, he said.

"He is the only Malaysian figure who has deep interaction with our country. Hopefully with this visit, he can bridge the complex relations between Indonesia and Malaysia," organiser Adi Sasono, a former Muslim activist, told reporters.

Lectures in Jakarta, Bandung

Anwar, who was freed on Sept 2 after serving six years in jail for alleged corruption and sodomy under the government of former premier Mahathir Mohamad, will give a series of lectures in Jakarta and in Bandung town in West Java province and is due to meet with Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengkubuwono X in Central Java.

Najib, who is also Malaysia's defence minister, will meet Indonesian officials to discuss illegal immigrants and security in the Malacca Straits, a pirate-prone busy waterway which runs between the two countries, during his three-day visit from Dec 8.
