A RM2.6b donation? Hello, we’re not born yesterday

YOURSAY | ‘What Chua is implying is that GE13 was bought with Arab money.’

Soi Lek sheds light on where some of Najib’s RM2.6b went

Sali Tambap: There is still much opacity about the dealings of 1MDB that the public do not know. Saying that the RM2.6 billion was a donation from a rich Arab is certainly a convenient excuse and a poor one at that.

The thing is, about the same amount of money is being unaccounted for in 1MDB or being used not according to its original purposes. Despite 1MDB denial, the recipients of the money denied receiving it, and there was no further clarification.

Considering the illegal use of the money (that it was used for its original purpose) and the tortuous routes it took, the impression that it eventually ended up in the so-called 'Arab hands' and then found its way finally into PM Najib Razak's private AmBank account, become more and more real.

As long as the donor’s identity is not revealed, where the money came from and Bank Negara’s insistence of fraud being committed, doubt in the public’s mind would not go away.

XED: When former MCA chief Chua Soi Lek thanked Najib for promising financial assistance, did he think of the possibility that the money could have come from people who were paying bribes to BN?

Many democratic countries committed to the rule of law require political donations to be revealed, especially if the sums donated are big. The sum of RM2,600,000,000 is big enough.

Vijay47: In a litany of records the rest of the world can only admire and envy, the raising of money by BN for political strategies stands in a league of its own.

First, we have the head of a Malaysian political party openly admitting, even boasting that he received unimaginable funds from foreigners to ensure that his party won the elections and continued to rule the country.

Najib is not the least perturbed that apart from the inherent corruption in this act, the arrangement smacks of treason where the government turns subservient to interests from abroad.

Then we have the leader of a minor party revealing how the ‘loot’ from abroad was shared among the band members, possibly taking a page out of the script of ‘Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves’.

What do you have to say now, Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin? You earlier pleaded innocence, claiming you were not aware of how the elections money was obtained or used.

Are you suggesting that you did not know what even a lackey like Chua was privy to?

Spirit of Malaya: What a load of rubbish from another ‘has been’. Chua, are you saying that you know better than Muhyiddin about the monies found in Najib's personal account when the ex-PM himself confessed that he didn't know about it?

Why don't you just say what Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said upon becoming the new DPM - that you have met the generous Arab philanthropist!

Simple Malaysian: So Chua is saying some of the funds were given to BN component parties. Has this been reflected in any of the parties' accounts?

Let’s start with MCA. If so, was it banked into party accounts or to the respective presidents' personal accounts as well? I wonder if any of the parties will support Chua's statement.

TimeWill Tell: What Chua is implying is that the election was bought with Arab money. Is that acceptable?

If only ‘part’ of the RM2.6 billion was used for the 13th GE, what happened to the rest? This has been the question that many have been asking since the issue came up. That is, assuming there really was such a donation.

Mushiro: One ex-MCA president accused Najib of taking public funds and deposited it into his personal account. Another ex-MCA president said Najib used part of the money for the 13th GE.

Even Muhyiddin is not aware where the RM2.6 billion came from and how the money was spent.

But the point is, if anyone questions Najib, then you are immediately in his bad books and if you defend Najib, you are in for a quick reward. What is Chua expecting?

Anonymous_1371527725: People are questioning two different things. One, the source of the RM2.6 billion, and two, why is it banked into his personal account and where it went.

The first question was never answered and second, the money was never revealed to any of the Umno leaders.

If he received the money in trust for Umno, why was it not reflected in the party's records? So it is okay to pocket Umno's money, too?

People just cannot accept the explanation that the RM2.6 billion was a donation. The Palestinians - whom our politicians passionately claim to defend and are in dire need of funds - never received this kind of aid from their Muslim brethren.

So it defies logic that anyone would donate RM2.6 billion to us when we have little say in Middle East politics. Understand?

Iiiizzzziiii: When will Malaysians wake up from their deep slumber? If we do not draw a line here, what is the point of having laws?

While Malaysians are so righteous where religions are concerned, it appears corruption is okay to many of them.

Is this the message we want to send to the younger generation? That it is okay to do anything under the sun, but don't get caught.
