Members of the Public Accounts Committee will not be required to take an oath of secrecy.

This is because they have already sworn oaths as members of Parliament, PAC chief Hasan Arifin said today.

"The first thing I stressed is that PAC members don't need to take an oath," he told reporters at a press conference after PAC's first meeting today, almost four months after the last.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for PAC members be sworn to secrecy to prevent any information leak from the work of the parliamentary committee.

This was after PAC member Tony Pua was accused of leaking information to the media about the committee's probe into 1MDB, a charge that both Pua and former PAC chief Nur Jazlan Mohamad denied.

Hasan also said today's meeting went well and the PAC's new members were briefed on their duties and brought up to date on ongoing probes.

He said everyone was working well with one another.

"I'm pleased by the cooperation given by all PAC members," Hasan said.
