For Mahathir, karma has come full circle

YOURSAY | ‘The time will come when he will be put in his place. That time has come.’

Dr M: Police asked questions, I said I won't answer

Ferdtan: Welcome to the harassed club, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. It is nice to know ‘karma’ has finally caught up with him.

Needless to say, we know the one most responsible for this shameless abuse of the enforcement agencies. Mahathir, how does it feel to be at the receiving end from the state apparatus that you had in your heyday as PM had given so much power?

However, this (giving statement to the police) is nothing compared to what the opposition and anti-government activists went through.

Mahathir is lucky that as a nonagenarian ex-leader, the treatment is different; otherwise he may be sitting next to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in a Sungai Buloh cell.

Asians have great reverence for elderly people. They don’t put them in prison, especially one from ruling Umno.

With the police daring to question him after postponing it for so long means that Mahathir is slowly losing his battle against PM Najib Razak. Who will be the next target?

As Mahathir’s associates had not been spared, will his family members be next? His son, Kedah’s MB Mukhriz, perhaps?

Aries46: I suppose Mahathir has his reasons for not answering the questions posed to him by the police and that is understandable.

Whatever he has said or written regarding 1MDB and other contentious issues such as the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ in Najib's personal account are in the public domain and needs no further deliberation unless they are proven to be false.

1MDB-related matters, though under months of investigation by various bodies, have largely been shielded under official secret, not yielding any finding one way or another despite the length of time taken.

Neither has the probe disproved any of the allegations reported by the foreign media.

It is these lapses, secrecy and cover-ups that has led to rumours, suspicion and confusion among the people who are overcome with anxiety caused by its devastating effects on our economy, currency and cost of living.

SSG: He was the teacher. These are his students. What else did they expect from their teacher?

Tunku Abdul Rahman, our beloved first prime minister and considered the father of this nation, did say however that the time will come when this man will be put in his place. That time has come.

I do wish Mahathir a long life because I want him to see with his own eyes how he betrayed his country.

Most of all, I want him to see how his actions taken long ago led to the destruction of his beloved party.

Hamzah Paiman: All his closest allies have left him. Where is Perkasa? Where are the Umno members? Where are all those who said that Mahathir is our ‘pahlawan bangsa’.

The sad truth is this sick society that he created only respects people who hold office. If not, they are treated as dirt.

Tunku experienced it, Hussein Onn experienced it, Salleh Abas experienced it, Anwar experienced it and a whole lot of others too.

So winning a post is nothing. The most important thing is to do good for the nation, irrespective of race or religion while in power.

Cops quiz Mahathir, lawyer tightlipped on details

Kingfisher: The Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) standard operating procedure (SOP) should be applied to each and every one regardless of status and titles.

The application of SOP by the PDRM must never give rise to suspicion that it is selectively used for purposes other than upholding the rule of law in a righteous manner.

Many would feel a certainty sympathy for Mahathir for a number of reasons, yet others would be neutral or even hopeful that this development would create an enabling environment that can put right much of what is sorely wrong in our nation today.

An old adage counsels that repeated calling of wolf can bring about inaction and harm when the real wolf appears. One is left wandering if Mahathir had called once too often in the past.

Johnjames: Now the police have taken action against Dr M, is the attorney-general (AG) going charge him? No matter what comes, Mahathir will fight on.

Mahathir made a wise move by not speaking even a word during the police questioning. He is aware of the legal consequences as the police now appeared to be serious.

MarkAdam: "I fear, not because of anything, but because of manipulation of justice, manipulation of the law," said Mahathir . Funny.

It is the same allegation that others are throwing at him when he was in power. Now he is saying the same, or is he afraid to taste his own medicine?
