Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today reiterated that the government will continue efforts to assist the Indian community in improving its structure and economy besides protecting their culture so that members of the community are not sidelined from mainstream development.

"This commitment can be seen clearly through the various initiatives we have undertaken all this while besides in Budget 2016 and the 11th Malaysia Plan whereby a master plan will be formulated to determine the direction of socio-economic development of the Indian community," the Prime Minister said in his Deepavali message on his blog NajibRazak.com today.

Najib said he hoped the joy of Deepavali which will be celebrated by members of the Hindu faith on Tuesday will be shared by all Malaysians and that the people would continue to live in peace and harmony.

"In us celebrating the Festival of Light which carries the profound message that light will overcome darkness and good will triumph over evil, let's not forget to be beacons of hope to those around us who need help.

"Take an opportunity like this to redouble our efforts to give better hope to our surrounding community," he said.

Najib said he was confident that Deepavali will be celebrated in a greater spirit of "muhibbah" (goodwill) because a festival like this helped enhance relationships among all ethnic groups in Malaysia.

"As a nation, we are very fortunate because we can practice our traditions that have been handed down through the generations.

"The serving of (Deepavali) delicacies and seeing homes that are lighted up with decorations and the joyful atmosphere is truly an unforgettable experience when making our Deepavali open house rounds," added Najib.
