Muhyiddin: Watch against racial, religious incitements
Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin today reminded Malaysians to be vigilant against attempts to exploit racial or religious sentiments for personal gain.
In his Deepavali message, the former deputy prime minister said the Hindu’s belief in the triumph of light over darkness is also a reminder for the people to always do good and stay away from any evils.
“Living in a multiracial country requires a high level of tolerance among the races.
“We have shown to the world that the diversity formula practised in Malaysia has allowed us to rise as a developed society, even though we comprise people from different races and religions,” he said.
This, he said, is the only way for Malaysia to remain as a country that is peaceful, developed and prosperous.
“Practise a lifestyle that is honest, with integrity and responsibility. Whether as members of the community or as leaders, we must practise a lifestyle based on honourable principles.
“Whether we are community members or leaders, all of us carry a big responsibility to ensure that our country remains on the right track and move forward to long-lasting development, stability and prosperity,” he said.
Since his sacking from the cabinet, Muhyiddin has been a strong critic of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s administration and his handling of national affairs.
