Noh: MB Azmin's Langat 2 delay will cost S'gor RM800m

Selangor BN chairperson Noh Omar claimed the action of Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali in delaying the Langat 2 project has caused the state to lose RM800 million.

He said this was because two new water treatment plants had to be temporarily built while awaiting the completion of Langat 2 in 2019.

"This is due to the politicking by the state government in not wanting to work with the federal government earlier as the Langat 2 project should have been completed in 2014 but is now postponed to 2019.

"When the state government finally agreed to continue with it (Langat 2), the people had to foot RM800 million in losses (for the construction of new water treatment plants)," he told reporters in Shah Alam today.

Noh was commenting on the statement by Mohamed Azmin on Monday that the Selangor state government would be building two new water treatment plants worth RM800 million next year while waiting for Langat 2 to be completed in 2019.

The two new projects are the Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant in Jenderam Hilir and the Labohan Dagang Water Treatment in Kuala Langat.

Mohamed Azmin was reported as saying the projects would reduce treated water supply shortage to meet the needs of the people and industry in the state.

Langat 2 which is part of the Raw Water Transfer Project, will be able to treat 1.89 billion litres of raw water daily which will be channeled to Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 2025.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili had earlier been reported as saying the delay to Langat 2 project was due to the Selangor government directing agencies and local authorities to postpone all approvals and permits for the plant's construction until the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor is finalised.

The restructuring of the water industry in Selangor was finalised in September this year.
