The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has contacted the Prime Minister's Office to secure an appointment to quiz Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on the RM2.6 billion found in his personal bank accounts.

MACC is also probing the allegation that RM42 million flowed from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International into Najib's accounts.

MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said Najib has agreed to give a statement on this.

"The MACC is waiting for the date when we can interview him on the issues relating to our investigation," Abu Kassim (photo) told reporters in Johor Baru today.

The anti-graft body aims to complete the investigations on SRC International by year-end.

However, the MACC said it depends on whether it can get hold of two SRC International directors who are overseas.

Attorney-General Apandli Ali was reported as saying the MACC has taken statements from SRC International managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil and director Suboh Md Yassin.

'We need time to probe RM2.6 bil'

Abu Kassim said the probe into the RM2.6 billion would take time because it involves overseas banking transactions and mutual legal assistance.

MACC earlier said the RM2.6 billion was a donation from a Middle-Eastern source.

This corroborates Najib's claim that it was a political donation.

The prime minister, who is also Umno president, is facing a lawsuit by Umno member Ainina Saadudin over the funds.
