Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said he will give his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) 'in the immediate future'.

The MACC today said it has contacted the Prime Minister's Office to set an appointment and is waiting for a response.

It is probing the RM2.6 billion found in Najib's personal bank accounts.

"I will give my statement to MACC about the political contribution in the immediate future.

"I will cooperate with MACC so the investigation will be wrapped up as soon as possible," he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

"This is my intention given that this matter has caused a lot of allegations and slander."

Najib said he received notice to give a statement to MACC on the RM2.6 billion from attorney-general Apandi Ali.

MACC is investigating the RM2.6 billion, and allegations that RM42 million flowed from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International to Najib's bank accounts.

Its chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said MACC will be able to wrap up the SRC International probe by year-end on condition that it has access to two SRC International directors currently abroad.

Apandi earlier said MACC has quizzed SRC International directors Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil and Suboh Md Yassin.

Abu Kassim said the investigation into the RM2.6 billion will need time because it involves international transactions, and require mutual legal assistance of agencies abroad.
