Selangor DAP has revealed their intention to contest the Taman Templer state seat now under PAS in the next general elections.

Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua said the party is serious and making its intention clear by setting up a service centre in the community.

However, he said, the decision to contest is not final and will depend on discussion within Pakatan Harapan.

"We indeed wish to contest in Taman Templer, but this is not Pakatan Harapan's final decision.

"We will discuss with our comrades in Pakatan Harapan like brothers and sisters," Pua ( photo ) said when asked after the launch of party's Taman Templer service centre today.

The Petaling Jaya Utara MP added that they wanted the seat because the composition of Malay and Chinese voters do not differ much there, where Malay voters make up 50.4 percent, 34.6 percent Chinese and 12.8 percent Indian voters.

"Opposition won Taman Templer in the 2013 general elections for the first time. PAS gained votes because of Pakatan Rakyat, not merely because of PAS alone.

"Therefore, it's important now that we have a new political coalition, Pakatan Harapan, to retain the seat.

"I believe the majority of voters in Taman Templer state and Selayang parliamentary seats will vote for the coalition and not for an individual party," Pua said.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he has full confidence on the state to decide whether to contest the Taman Templer seat.

"Anything related to Selangor will be dealt with Tony Pua. We will support any decision by DAP Selangor," he said.
