DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has proposed that PAS and Umno ( bernikah ) "get married" as there's not much difference between them.

Lim said this following a proposal by Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, that PAS and Umno reunite as both profess the same faith, and are similar in character and ideals.

"I agree with what the mufti had said. Although he did not use the term `nikah', (getting married) I will use the term as wearing a skull cap and a songkok has no difference. Hence, it is better for both of them to 'nikah'.

"Do not pretend. Hence, in the next general election, a vote for PAS is deemed as a vote for BN," he said in officiating at the launch of Selayang DAP's service centre in Taman Templer.

Meanwhile, Lim also questioned PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's opposition to DAP in introducing local council elections.

Hadi reportedly said he feared if Chinese occupy those seats, they might allow Muslims the opportunity to drink liquor and take up gambling.

But Lim said PAS was reacting like Umno and BN in faulting the DAP on giving gambling licences when in reality, such approvals were given by the federal government.

"Why attack us and not BN? Umno-BN are the ones who issue gambling licences. Why involve the DAP?" he asked. He reiterated that Umno and PAS are alike in their criticism of DAP.

"What Asri says is correct. It is better that they unite," said the DAP secretary-general.
