The appointment of Parti Amanah Negara nominees as local councillors in Selangor is on the cards, a Selangor state executive council member, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said.

“This is nothing unusual,” Nik Nazmi said, since Amanah is part of the state government, with two state assemblypersons.

However, he said, negotiations on the appointments of local councillors have just started, including on the allocation of posts to the various parties.

The two-year terms of the current batch of councillors will end next month.

Nik Nazmi was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a PKR function in Subang Jaya last night.

He said this when asked about the call by the Youth wing of Selangor Amanah for the party to be given local councillor appointments in the coming term.

“Most local councillors will finish their terms in December, and the time is ripe for Amanah to be given the space to serve the community.

“Amanah is now part of the Selangor government, and we should be given space and opportunity in local government councils. Amanah wants the running of the state to be fairer,” Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abbas Azmi is quoted as saying in Sinar Harian yesterday.

The two Amanah state assemblypersons in Selangor are Saari Sungib, who represents Hulu Kelang, and Hasnul Baharuddin, representing Morib.

The party is a PAS splinter that was launched on Sept 16 this year, and is comprises mainly former PAS members who are unhappy with this year’s PAS party election that saw the Islamic party conservatives make a clean sweep of the top leadership positions.
