The government may haul Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen to Parliament's rights and privileges committee for wrongly linking a top corporate leader to 1MDB.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said Wong should not have wrongly linked Goldman Sach's Malaysia corporate finance chairperson Yusof Yaacob to the troubled state investment fund.

Wong had in a parliamentary question on Monday, named Yusof as the Deutsche Bank chairperson, a mistake he later admitted to. It's alleged the bank has dealings with 1MDB.

"The government is considering hauling Wong to the rights and privileges committee.

"I would like to remind people not to make accusations that are false or cannot be substantiated because you are harming their reputation," Nur Jazlan told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He added that Wong should apologise to Yusof, who complained to the deputy minister that his bosses were asking why police were looking for him.

No search for five

Wong had in a parliamentary question asked if Interpol could locate five individuals allegedly linked to 1MDB.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the five could not be located.

Nur Jazlan clarified that the Interpol mentioned in Zahid's reply was the Malaysian branch.

He also emphasised that there was no search for the five because there was no police report necessitating it.

Besides Yusof, the five named are controversial billionaire Low Taek Jho, SRC International Sdn Bhd Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, Casey Tang of 1MDB's precursor Terengganu Investment Authority's (TIA) and a former executive director at UBG, Jasmine Loo.

In response, PKR said it will launch a Facebook initiative to ask netizens to post any sighting of Low and the four.

Wong Chen apologises

Followng this, Wong Chen tonight issued an apology to Yusof, stating that he had actually intended to name SRC International executive Suboh Mohd Yassin who is wanted by the MACC.

"For that mistake, I hereby now publicly and unreservedly apologise to Yusof Annuar Yaacob," he said in a statement.

However, Wong Chen disputed Nur Jazlan's claim that Yusof had nothing to do with 1MDB.

"According to a Bloomberg report dated Jan 7, 2014 titled 'Deutsche Bank hires Goldman's Yusof Annuar as Malaysia head', Yusof was Goldman Sachs Malaysia chairperson for corporate finance and Goldman Sachs reportedly earned US$500 million in fees from arranging three bond sales for 1MDB.

"Nevertheless, the above clarification about Yusof's past with Goldman Sachs is meant to rebut Nur Jazlan's statement against me and not meant to dilute my apology to Yusof," he said.
