'Not beneficial for Pakatan Harapan to confront PAS'
Aries46:
PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli doesn't make sense. Having an electoral understanding with PAS to avoid one-on-one clashes is well and good.
By this PAS stands to benefit from opposition votes for its candidates, so what is the guarantee it would in turn deliver its votes to Pakatan Harapan candidates in other areas?
We saw in the Selangor MB tussle how it betrayed Pakatan Rakyat and threw its support behind Khalid Ibrahim and his alleged Umno backers, nominated its own candidates to HRH (His Royal Highness) for the MB position and worked behind the scene to set up a unity government with Umno.
If not for the support of the two PAS representatives who broke ranks and the sultan standing his ground, Selangor may well have ended up in Umno hands.
So DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's prediction that a vote for PAS is a vote for Umno (and for hudud) is the reality today and more so based on Abdul Hadi Awang's open support for PM Najib Razak.
PAS may be different two years down the line but what good is it to the nation with its incompatible extreme religious ideologies in the grip of hardliners that had purged its moderates and progressives in toto?
Quigonbond: I think it's better to call a spade a spade instead of deluding oneself to believe in certain things.
If PAS feels the sting after what Guan Eng said, it's up to them to prove that Guan Eng is wrong and that they are, at heart, still anti-Umno and still want to dislodge BN from power.
But from what I can see, PAS is getting cozier with Umno, so I think if PKR thinks they can still work with PAS, I'm afraid it's just their wet dream.
Third Eye: Trying to have a foot in each camp may make you fall flat on your face. No need to confront PAS, yes, but also no need to try to curry favour with it, too.
A known enemy is less dangerous than a false friend.
Send in the Clowns: After an embarrassing loss in the vote against Najib's budget, thanks to PKR for the foul-up. Rafizi, you still have the blooming cheek to make such ridiculous statements to 'seduce' PAS? It is like rubbing salt into a raw wound.
Perhaps, it is time for PKR to say goodbye to Pakatan Harapan, too. Malaysians do not want a spoiler and his mistress to muddy the waters.
No worries mate, we will be fine; there will still be monsoons every year in Kelantan, with or without PAS.
Stig: If the final objective is to have one-on-one fights against BN in the next election, then please shed light on which party will be giving up their seats so that Amanah can contest?
If you cannot see that the way forward is to form a strong opposition bloc consisting of PKR-DAP-Amanah with Amanah contesting against PAS/BN, then you have no business to be one of the potential leaders of the opposition pact.
Obs: Rafizi, a simple question, even in the best-case scenario, you manage to work with PAS and convince the voters to vote your alliance with PAS again, what makes you so sure PAS will not stab you in the back again and sleep with Umno. They are already doing that.
Stop your wishful thinking. Let PAS marry Umno, they are a pair made in hell.
Anonymous #12566075: The few comments made here could reflect the general feeling about the current PAS leadership. What Rafizi said holds true only if Hadi is no longer the PAS president.
He has lost his credibility in handling issues like Bersih 4, the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Selangor MB appointment and latest no-confidence vote against Najib.
There is no point for any opposition alliance to win GE14 with PAS and later to be dismantled by PAS’ withdrawal from the alliance. Once-bitten, twice shy with this political snake. PKR should think carefully.
Headhunter: Like the BN, PAS’ progress is hampered by one very stubborn man whose ego is the size of a hot air balloon.
Drngsc: Do you mean to say, that in avoiding one-one contests, you prefer to sleep with a snake, and when you win the race, they can bite you back? After all, they have a track record of doing this.
Is it not better to kick them out, face some three-on-one fights?
Tell PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, either he leaves and stays with PAS or you all leave and join Amanah. If you all love Malaysia, that is.
Ksn: Rafizi, you may not want to confront PAS but that group of fanatics, both racial and religious, must be avoided and shunned. That in my view is the feelings of our people generally, the voters in particular.
Do not look for flimsy excuses to stay with them. Make a decision one way or the other. Do not take our people for granted.
We want a government to unite our people, not fanatics or those associated with them. Get it, Rafizi, and convey this message to your associates in PKR. If not, PKR is doomed.
Haveagreatday: "…but we must never lose sight of the big picture - our main enemy is BN and Umno,” said Rafizi.
Rafizi, the question is whether you are sure PAS is on the same side as Pakatan Harapan. Just look at the Budget vote .
My Opinion: There are other ways to get rid of BN. But if you work along with PAS, you are dabbling with more troubles.
If I have a cat, a dog and a crocodile to fight against a snake, I'll take the cat and dog along but leave the crocodile be. You know how the story will end with a crocodile.
