The gathering to protest against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) held near the Ampang Park LRT Station in Kuala Lumpur attracted about 100 participants.

The chairperson of the anti-TPPA movement, Mohammad Nizam Mahshar, who led the gathering, said it was participated by 52 non-governmental organisations (NGO), including Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa) and Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim).

The peaceful gathering, held for one hour beginning at 2.30pm, started from an area opposite the As-Syakirin Mosque, Jalan Ampang, before proceeding to the Ampang Park LRT Station, about 500 metres away, carrying banners that say, among others, ‘TPPA Oppresses the People’ and ‘Do Not Mortgage National Sovereignty’.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Md Isa said police would call up the organisers to record their statement for staging the 'illegal' gathering.

"No arrests have been made but police will take statements from the organisers in the near future," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
