DAP adviser Dr Chen Man Hin has urged the party's youth wing to dig in for a long fight against Umno, even though the latter may appear weak.

He reminded that Umno had been in a weak position before, but had been able to make a comeback each time.

“Umno is in trouble, but they have been in trouble before and they have managed to to survive.

“Don't think that because of these recent troubles, they are losing ground. They may be in trouble, but they have the money and Umno leaders are all entrenched,” he told some 400 delegates at the DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) national convention in Serdang today.

The DAP founding member told the delegates that they may not even win the next election, but urged them to be patient.

“ We will have to fight some more, and be prepared to struggle for a long time. But we can be assured that we will win in the future,” he said.

Umno is facing criticism on its president Najib Abdul Razak's brainchild 1MDB, and allegations that he had received a RM2.6 billion donation.

This is coupled with public dissatisfaction over the introduction of the GST and poor economic performance of the country.

In a rare move, some Umno branch chiefs have openly urged Najib's resignation over the 1MDB and donation issues.

Najib has consistently denied wrongdoing in the matter.
