PARLIAMENT The government will seek to haul Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Lembah Pantai) before the Parliament's Rights and Privileges Committee for meeting self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in the Philippines.

A motion to cite Nurul Izzah for contempt of the Dewan Rakyat appeared in Parliament's Order Paper for today.

She may end up being suspended, like Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah), who was suspended in the Parliament session for insulting Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

"As reported by the social media and the photographs uploaded by Jacel on Nov 9, Lembah Pantai parliamentarian has attended a meeting with Princess Jacel Kiram, the daughter of Jamalul Kiram III," the motion reads.

"The meeting between Lembah Pantai parliamentarian and the daughter of the mastermind of the intrusion is seen as a violation against (your) oath as a Member of Parliament and pledges to be loyal to Malaysia."

This has created the sense of negative prejudice and insensitivity against the intrusion of Lahad Datu, where the national sovereignty was challenged, the motion added.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said in a statement said despite Nurul Izzah's apology, there can be no compromise for breaking her oath as an MP.

"Despite her attempts at apologising, as an honourable member of the august House her conduct is unacceptable, contrary to the oath she took, that is, to solemnly protect the nation and uphold our constitution which means she is fully aware of her responsibilities and particularly in the matter of our national sovereignty.

"Having seen the current behavioral misconduct of certain MPs, a code of conduct, or more accurately a code of ethical conduct, must be a matter of priority to regulate our MPs especially in meeting foreign groups," Azalina said.

Azalina said Nurul Izzah will be faced to the rights commitee on Dec 3.

When met, Deputy speaker Ismail Mohamed Said the Dewan Rakyat will continue the final debates on Bugdet 2016, after which it will deal with the Sarawak redelineation and finally, the motion against Nurul Izzah.

Dinner hosted by Philippine authorities

Jamalul's followers intruded into Lahad Datu on Feb 12, 2013, with the intention of taking over the east coast of Sabah.

The Lahad Datu incident saw two security members killed and three others injured while 12 armed intruders were killed.

Thus, Nurul Izzah's action has tarnished the reputation and prestige of the Dewan Rakyat, the motion said.

Nurul Izzah in her statement earlier admitted meeting with Jacel on Nov 9 while in the Philippines with Batu MP Tian Chua, as part of a PKR delegation's meeting with that country's stakeholders.

BN leaders have been attacking Nurul Izzah incessantly over the incident, which she said she now regrets .

Nurul Izzah has also explained that she only met Jacel at a dinner hosted by the Philippine authorities, at which she and Tian Chua were guests.
