Don’t expect this lot of Umno delegates to do the right thing

YOURSAY | ‘When the people become enlightened, history will take its course.’

If Clinton’s the 'comeback kid', Najib’s the 'cannot get rid'

Kim Quek: Excellent discourse by Rais Hussin who has vividly presented the wretched state of our country, precipitated by scandal-ridden Najib Abdul Razak’s alleged abuse of power to cling on to his premiership.

However, Rais is wrong in hinging the solution through self-awakening and self-reforms by Umno. Umno is beyond salvation. Replacement of Najib by another Umno leader would only prolong the agony and drag Malaysia further down the slippery slope.

Malaysians have no alternative but to get rid of the entire corrupt system and replace it with a clean and effective political leadership, if we do not want to end up as a ‘banana republic’ as aptly put by the writer.

The current series of 1MDB/RM2.6 billion scandals is a golden opportunity for us to educate the masses of the peril of extending Umno-BN’s heinous misrule.

And we can best achieve that by continuing to pressure our law-enforcing institutions to carry out their investigations to fruitful conclusions, and at the same time to disseminate full details of such crimes and misdeeds using all available media.

When the people become enlightened, history will take its course.

Ipohcrite: In reading the last sentence of Rais' article, “Or are we just asking for too much of the Umno delegates?”

I can understand and rightly share the pain and frustration that he is going through. Rais, while remaining hopeful (wishfully so, I say), is already resigned to the belief that Umno is incapable of saving itself, much less the nation.

Clearwater: These are Umno delegates of 2015, the grasping contractor breed, not the old school teacher breed who have all but disappeared. Ask not of this lot and you shall not be disappointed.

Onyourtoes: Seriously, can we ever expect those receiving handouts year after year to do the right thing for Malaysia? Umno warlords are parasites, the whole world knows this.

Iiiizzzziiii: The one solution which is bugging the PM and his supporters is the exit strategy which guarantee them freedom from persecution once he steps down and to be able to spend their money without being frozen by the state. If these two conditions can be granted, perhaps this may hasten the departure process.

In short, the PM is fighting for his future and if anyone is willing to give him what he wants, 'cannot rid' may become 'good riddance'.

Which leader is willing to give the present PM what he wants? Oh, I almost missed this out, the PM may also want to leave behind a legacy, in a positive way of course, for historians to cast him in a very favourable light, something like the ‘modern father of financial management’ of Malaysia.

Anonymous 2299391436500295: Very flimsy connection - Najib and Bill Clinton. And Clinton was not the first president to be impeached by Congress. Andrew Johnson was first, in 1868. And both were exonerated.

BN lawmaker proposes a communist museum

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: True, a museum showing the communists atrocities committed on Malaysians is very apt, acting as reminder to their cruelties.

But, bear in mind it is not only Malays who suffered, the Chinese as well as the Indians suffered. Truly, communism is our sworn enemy.

But lately it is the communists who came to our rescue, buying 1MDB power plants which many shun. It was then praises for the communists. Now I am confused.

To damn the communists or praise them now?

Mojo Jojo: Yes, the communists were portrayed as violent during their conflict with the Malayan armed forces, and this portrayal may have been accurate.

Still, is this museum used to portray historical ‘facts’ or is it used for something more sinister, like portraying a certain ethnic minority as the main source of membership for the Communist Party of Malaya?

While you are at it, I would suggest that you invite Chinese President Xi Jinping to officially open the museum during his next state visit to Malaysia.

I'm certain the Chinese head of state would be most appreciative of your efforts for portraying communists as blood-thirsty vampires.

Quigonbond: It sounds more like whitewashing history and glorifying Umno.

Send in the Clowns: Umno is trying very hard to demonise the CPM, who were fighting the invading Japanese foreign forces. Where were Umno then?

If they wish to build a communist museum, make sure the full story is revealed, certified by reputable British historians.

Without CPM and Chin Peng, this blessed land will be hoisting the flag of the rising sun, and Japanese would be the official language.

Donation Seeker: How about a corruption, nepotism and cronyism museum? This will be a good start to show the future generations how the ruling clique allegedly raped, looted and plundered this nation.

Ngms: Two generations from now, Umno shall attain the same status in history.
