'Has Adenan gone back to old ways of giving out cheap lands?'

Padungan state assemblyperson Wong King Wei has questioned if Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem has fallen back on the old ways of the previous administration in giving out lands cheaply to well-connected individuals.

He said this in reference to the alienation of 22 parcels of land in Lundu, Sarawak, on March 17, 2014 totalling 3,121.33 acres to a company for RM882,176.00 or RM282 per acre.

"The lands are surrounding Sungai Sampadi (marked in blue). Thus, they are prime lands for cultivation.

"It is reasonable to estimate that the lands in this area is worth at least RM5,000 per acre.

"Yet the state government is giving out the lands not even at RM300 per acre.

"If the alienation is conducted by open tender, the government could easily receive at least RM15,606,650 in revenue," he said in a statement today.

Furthermore, the DAP lawmaker claimed the discounted premium was also not paid as the land parcels were considered a payment-in-kind for a public works contract by the company.

Wong claimed the alienation, done under Adenan's administration, was "highly questionable" and that the owners of the company are linked to the family of Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud.

"I demand for the chief minister's immediate explanation. Has he chosen to go back to the old path of his previous administration?" asked Wong.
