Ministry: No delay in probe into Morais' murder

The Home Ministry said today there is no question of any delay in the investigation into the murder of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais.

It said in a written reply to Chua Tian Chang alias Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) in Parliament that the police had launched the probe soon after receiving a report that Morais had gone missing.

“The police considered all aspects in the investigation, including scrutinising the recording of all the CCTV cameras along the route often used by Morais.

“There was no neglectfulness in terms of the investigation until the case was resolved,” it said.

Chua had wanted to know if it was true that the CCTV camera recording was only looked into after four days and whether it was true that the police did not receive a memo on the case until after 48 hours.

The body of Morais, 55, was found in a drum filled with concrete at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.

Morais was reported missing on Sept 4. He was reportedly last seen leaving his condominium unit at Menara Duta in Kuala Lumpur to his office at the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Putrajaya.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Md Isa said on Oct 5 that the police were not looking for more suspects after eight people were charged with Morais’s murder.
