Former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim is facing charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 over his recent blog posting that was allegedly written with intentions to hurt another person's feelings.

Zaid's lawyer M Puravalen confirmed with Malaysiakini that he was summoned to the Dang Wangi police station this afternoon and given official notice to be present at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow morning

"They (police) took his photo and fingerprints," Puravalen said in a text message.

Zaid later told reporters outside Dang Wangi that he is ready to face any possible outcome.

"I am ready for anything. In a democratic country, we must have a right to express our views for the good of the country," he said.

It was earlier reported that Zaid was facing charges for sedition over the contents of a speech he had delivered at the Royal Selangor Club in September.

The full text of his speech was uploaded on his blog under a posting titled “Rally Behind Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad”.

Zaid, in his speech, had urged the people to rally behind former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has been calling for the removal of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak from office.
