'We need a bill to protect M'sians from Najib'

YOURSAY | ‘It is a question of heads Umno wins, and tails the opposition loses.’

'NSC Bill can be used to stop rallies like Bersih 4'

Monty: What are the security threats to Malaysia? The supporters of Islamic State (IS) for sure. But as the home minister constantly reminds us, it is minor and manageable under the present laws.

The second serious threat is to PM Najib Abdul Razak. He is still hanging on to power against all odds with the measures put in place by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The National Security Council (NSC) Bill is to ensure that steps can be easily taken to keep the forces opposing him in check.

The third threat is to Umno in the next elections. Clearly this bill is designed to keep Umno in power no matter what the results of the election.

It is a question of heads Umno wins, and tails the opposition loses. Does anyone need for that to be spelt out?

All opposition members, including those in the government from Sabah and Sarawak, must work together to ensure that the law never sees the light of day. Failure to do so will be catastrophic for the country.

Iiiizzzziiii: One of the objectives of the NSC Bill is to prevent Sabah and Sarawak from breaking away from Malaysia.

So, to all Sabahans and Sarawakians, be careful on your support for a bill that is designed to pre-empt whatever desires and vision you have for your own future.

The noises you have made over the past few months have gotten those who walk the corridors of powers worried.

The minute you talk about secession, your entire state will be declared a security zone and a curfew will be imposed until all the undesired secession elements have been neutralised.

Gunnerrun: We are such a small nation and these incompetents are really losing it, claiming that they now have trouble managing so-called "violent" rallies.

They have all sorts of laws, all the weaponry, permit-granting rights, and yet there's a need for more laws.

These are peaceful assemblies, guaranteed under the constitution.

Dingy: As Najib felt his position is being threatened, more draconian laws would be passed next year.

As Umno worships Najib, would they make him an emperor and create the Najib dynasty?

By then, he can abolish parliamentary democracy. No more parliament, no opposition, no general election.

Legit: This is nothing but a step towards dictatorship. The opposition parties must put their differences aside and act to stop Najib from moving forward with this plan.

Civil society, the Bar Council and others must take it to the people and make them aware of the consequences of this law. Otherwise Malaysia is doomed forever.

Dont Just Talk: Instead of bowing his head in shame and stepping down as PM, Najib has strengthened his hands further by introducing the NSC Bill in order to silence those who stand in his way.

As usual, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and other BN parties support his move and then expect voters to vote for them in the elections.

Anonymous 2353861441183710: This bill confers the powers of a dictator on someone who has yet to answer the billion-dollar question. Can you trust him?

Again, a new draconian law is put before Parliament

6th Generation Immigrant: This surely must be the last straw.

Even Dr Mahathir Mohamad has now realised the wrongs of his era and is trying hard to right them today, albeit it’s too late.

What was good for him can be abused by those after him. Do not let history repeat in this case.

Anonymous_40f4: With many draconian laws like the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma), Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota), Sedition Act and now the National Security Council Act (NSC), Najib and Umno Baru/BN can never be removed from power.

They can be very corrupt and arrogant but the people cannot change the government to one of their choice.

Anonymous_1371479577: How can such an important law be tabled in the last few days of the parliamentary session?

Hibiscus: With this law, Najib does not even need Umno's support to remain in power. He only needs the cooperation of the army and the police.

Not Convinced: We don't need more laws to protect Malaysia. What we need is a law to protect Malaysians from Najib.
